These include shoveling out any mud that may have penetrated into the garage, raising all important gear into unaffected areas, and alerting your insurer for a claim. You will need to check if the water was clean or contaminated and recheck if the waters reached anywhere else in the house. The main garage structure may have to be checked for leaks, while taking note of the high-water level.

If there was a vehicle in the garage at the time of the incident, it must be thoroughly checked for flood damage. Some insurers are not keen on compensation if the vehicle is not under comprehensive coverage.

Tools?

It is possible that any tools may be dislodged. Account for all of them and clean as much as you can, especially tools like screwdrivers or torque wrenches that may rust over time. Make sure all power tools were safely disconnected and the power was cut.
